Position Description

Your Children’s Trees at UCSB is a campus organization conducting native species restoration and planting projects throughout the community. We are dedicated to educating the public about the benefits of urban forests and the importance of planting native trees in our communities. Interns work with a Campus Adviser and a Board Certified Master Arborist. We are also part of a broader community non-profit, Your Children’s Trees, which provides urban forestry educational and technical support to the Santa Barbara County area.

 

We are looking for part-time interns for field events and environmental education activities during the Winter term. No experience is necessary, although all applicants should have an interest in a healthy and expanding urban forest and environmental education. Interns are expected to provide a minimum of 30 hours of service during the ten-week term, averaging 3 hours per week. Most of our tree care field events occur on Saturday mornings from 9 to noon. Most educational events at local schools occur on Thursdays from 5 to 8 pm or when we can arrange trips led by interns.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your Children’s Trees at UCSB is seeking interns for Winter 2023, averaging 3 hours of work per week, to assist with in-person native species and forest restoration projects, tree planting events, and tree walk maintenance. Sample responsibilities include participation in; collecting native seeds, planting and maintaining tree nursery; weeding, irrigating, and maintaining planted trees as necessary. Education Interns will work on developing and updating Tree Walks across the Goleta Union and Hope school districts, video editing, and planning activities for educational science nights hosted during the normal school year across the Santa Barbara/Goleta areas.

COMPENSATION:

 The purpose of the internship is to provide practical experience to those in environmental studies. A limited number of stipends will be available depending upon the generosity of sponsors including, The UCSB Coastal Fund, Associated Students Business and Finance, Community Volunteer Foundation, Edison, California Releaf, and other sponsors support several paid internships, while additional unpaid internships are also available such as volunteer internships.
