Summer 2024 Sustainability Intern
Position Description
The UNIQLO sustainability internship will offer highly motivated individuals the opportunities to learn about sustainability at UNIQLO and how we prioritize People, Planet, and Society in all that we do. Intern will gain both in-store and headquarters experience to fully grasp the entire UNIQLO business.
Schedule:
1 week in-stores + orientation
7 weeks in NY SSC, SoHo & 5th Ave store, and occasional travel to NJ Phillipsburg Warehouse
Responsibilities:
1. New Store Opening (NSO) Planning
-Organize and coordinating new store staff volunteer events
-Identify community partners in new markets
Coordinate RE.UNIQLO bin shipment
2. RE.UNIQLO Program: Conduct compliance requirements
3. Community:
-Assist with in-person volunteer / cleanups / community events
-Assist with product and monetary donation coordination
4. Warehouse
-Support with sorting through unsellable products and identify correct circular system solutions
5. RE.UNIQLO Studios
-Weekly visits to SoHo/5th Ave RE.UNIQLO Studios
-Organize events and customer engagement
6. Potential Plastic recycling support in stores
7. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
-Enrolled at an accredited university for an undergraduate or graduate degree
-Current Junior class level standing and above, open to all majors (Preferable pursuing a degree or emphasis in sustainability, environmental studies, or other related field of study)
-Intermediate understanding of sustainability in the clothing industry
-General understanding of Greenwashing (preferred)
-General understanding of Circularity in the clothing industry (preferred)
-Travel 25% of time between SoHo Corporate Office and UNIQLO Soho Store, UNIQLO 5th Ave store, and UNIQLO ---Warehouse in Phillipsburg, NJ
-Passion for UNIQLO and the 3 Pillars (People, Planet, Society)
-Strong leadership experience and work ethic, self-starter and independent
-Effective communication skills using company platforms, including but not limited to: Microsoft Outlook, Google Suite, etc.
Physical Demands: This position involves constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, and standing. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours. Involves lifting at least 30 lbs. May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May involve reaching above eye level. Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodations
Salary*: $19/hour, around 30 hours a week, 4 days a week on-site (some weekends required)
