ELI student helps the UCSB Student Senate to demand Governor Newsom to stop, drop, and roll for climate.

ELI student (‘21-’22), Kat Lane, has worked with the Last Chance Alliance and her mentor, Theo LeQuesne, a Climate Campaigner for the Center for Biological Diversity,  to pass a resolution through the UCSB Senate. This resolution calls on Governor Gavin Newsom to “stop issuing any new approvals for fossil fuel projects, drop existing fossil fuel production, and roll out strong 3200 ft health and safety buffers–or setbacks–to end neighborhood oil drilling.” UCSB will join UC Berkeley as the second UC campus to support this campaign. The San Diego Unified School District, San Diego City Council, and Sweetwater School District have also endorsed this effort calling on the Governor. These resolutions are part of a statewide initiative led by young people demanding and expressing support for courageous climate leadership.
