ELI alum, Schuyler Capita, has successfully implemented the first installment of his Environmental Leadership Incubator (ELI) project, Ecological Litera-seeing For Yourself, at the incredible Coal Oil Point Reserve. Interpretive signs installed around the Nature Center and extending into the dunes at Sands Beach now allow visitors to identify plant and bird species around the Reserve!

ELI students, Jamie Luu, Hunter Maher, and Milena Seymour, created Revamping Isla Vista's Native Plant Landscape to make Isla Vista (IV) a more beautiful place to call home. Specifically, the ELI team is repopulating IV landscapes with native plants that are specialized for widespread pollination and that add to the aesthetics of the community.

Feeling like there was an inadequate amount of greenspace in and around the UCSB, ELI students, Tanner Ellison and Emily Hernandez, got to work on adding a small garden study space to the campus. Tanner and Emily wanted to encourage people to spend more time outdoors amongst plants and sunlight. The hope was that this could help provide a bright spot in a person’s day and they can feel a little better having enjoyed some time outside.
