ELI students launched Barter 4 Better, a movement to combat overconsumption and encourage community in Isla Vista. The goal of this movement is to demonstrate to residents that a significant amount of waste can be avoided if resources are shared.

An ELI student created a waterproof tidepooling field guide to inspire conservation of marine biodiversity. Using the guide, she has been leading educational tidepooling trips in Santa Barbara. The tidepool guide is available for free the Santa Barbara Visitors Center and used by the Hollister Ranch Tide Pool School's educational programming.

An ELI student is expanding the ELI project "Re-Envisioning Recycling" by launching a campus-wide collection program for #2 and #4 plastic film, which is often not accepted in curbside recycling. She collected over 20 pounds of plastic film, placed collection bins across campus, and did outreach at community events.

ELI students created the Culinary Resistance Workshop to address student food insecurity and build food system literacy at UC Santa Barbara. Their six-week cooking course teaches CalFresh-eligible students practical cooking skills, sustainable meal preparation, and how to access campus food resources through partnerships with local organizations. The program empowers students to make healthier, more sustainable food choices.

An ELI student created Creative Use for All (CUfA), a program that redistributes donated arts and crafts supplies to make creative materials more accessible while reducing waste. Through donation boxes across campus and Isla Vista, the project diverted over 10 pounds of supplies from landfills and gave students free access to materials. CUfA is working toward opening a permanent campus location.

ELI alum, Schuyler Capita, has successfully implemented the first installment of his Environmental Leadership Incubator (ELI) project, Ecological Litera-seeing For Yourself, at the incredible Coal Oil Point Reserve. Interpretive signs installed around the Nature Center and extending into the dunes at Sands Beach now allow visitors to identify plant and bird species around the Reserve!

ELI students launched Revamping Isla Vista's Native Plant Landscape to restore native plants in Isla Vista, supporting pollinators, biodiversity, and community beautification. In partnership with the Isla Vista Recreation and Parks District and the Cheadle Center, they led native plant restoration events and are developing educational signage about local species, pollinators, and Chumash plant knowledge.
