All UCSB students are invited to participate in a research project aimed at improving critical thinking in 7th-12th grade students. You will be helping support science modules in local middle and high schools by guiding students through hands-on scientific discovery. Your commitment will span multiple volunteering sessions.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Earn up to 20 volunteer hours per module
- Bring hands-on learning into classrooms
- Earn 1 unit of CHEM 193
If you are receiving credit for volunteering, you must commit to at least 10 volunteer sessions/20 volunteering hours. If you are volunteering and not receiving credit, please commit to 5 volunteer sessions/10 hours. We strongly encourage you to volunteer as much as possible during the span of a module at a time. This is best for students, as they are seeing the same volunteers in their classrooms. This is also best for you, as with each module, you must attend a mandatory orientation to be trained on the module's content. Please reach out with any questions.
NOTE: SciTrek will be hosting a Fall Sign-up/Ice Cream Social on Monday October 2nd, at 5:30 pm on the lawn outside of the Chemistry building (see attached flyer). Stop by to socialize with new and past volunteers, learn about SciTrek's elementary program, sign-up to volunteer (undergraduate, graduate, and community volunteers are all welcome), and EAT ICE CREAM.
