Gallery Night Flyer

The Creative Earth Initiative, an Art, Water, and California educational art showcase event, is the culmination of Leah Jenson’s ELI experience (2024-2025) which started with a goal of combining art and sustainability to bring awareness to water challenges in California. Artists will be sharing their interpretations of what water scarcity means for the future of California. All are invited to share their work and attend the event on May 16th from 4-6 pm at the Isla Vista Community Center.

A student in the Environmental Leadership Incubator (ELI) Program, Leah Jensen blends her passion for community engagement with a strong commitment to environmental advocacy. “I want people to know how valuable water is. We’ve built systems that devalue it every day,” Leah explains. Curating a sustainability-based art showcase, Leah has invited local students and residents to submit artwork to raise awareness about the importance and yet scarcity of water resources. She will lead the creation of an interactive piece that invites community members to leave their mark—literally—by stamping a shared canvas. Her showcase, which opens its doors on May 16th from 4–6 p.m. at the Isla Vista Community Center, will feature music, performance art, and visual art in various mediums.  Members of the public are invited to contribute art in advance of the showcase.

Leah hopes her gallery empowers residents in Goleta, Isla Vista, and Santa Barbara to care deeply and act intentionally. With inspiration and education as her catalysts, Leah hopes to make a long- term impact in her community. “I’d love to see policy shifts and better choices made in the Santa Barbara area to protect and conserve our natural resources.” She hopes her showcase raises awareness and starts conversations.

Everyone is welcome to experience the Creative Earth Initiative.  Bring your friends, family, and fellow community members to this one-time event. This is an opportunity to spread awareness, participate in creating meaningful art, and build community connections to conserve water resources.
