Position Description 

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual to join our North America Communications Team. This junior position will work withing the Communications Team, North America and will support a range of communications and community engagement activity as part of Climate Week NYC, hosted this September.

This position will play a critical role in the delivery of the Climate Week NYC events program, bringing together over 600 events from across New York City across thematic areas. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the front line of the world’s largest climate event, working directly with an array of partner organizations, environmental groups and community leaders. With the support of the wider team, this position will liaise directly with organizations looking to participate in the week, oversee the process of assessing suitability and registering events, creatively advise on scheduling and partnerships between events and support editorial decisions on promoting parts of the program that best exemplify the diversity and focus on Climate Week NYC.

This is a fixed-term position ending September 30, 2024.

About the role

​Main responsibilities:

Act as the first port of call for all individuals and organizations looking to host events as part of Climate Week NYC
Facilitate the process of reviewing applications, liaising internally on suitability and opportunities for engagement, manage the process of registration and oversee content relating to the Climate Week NYC program
Have creative input in highlighting events and organizations that exemplify the diversity of Climate Week NYC and work with the wider team to promote and grow engagement with target events
Participate in the process of promoting Climate Week NYC, working with the marketing and media teams to activate the week across our platforms
Develop opportunities to support greater participation from underrepresented groups, as well as advising and proposing decisions on events and organizations that would benefit from additional complementary support from Climate Group NYC, in particular local grassroots organizations and those with a focus on environmental justice and representation of BIPOC communities
Support the procurement, production and review of editorial content for the Climate Week NYC magazine, highlighting organizations and events which we would like to highlight as part of the week
In addition there will be numerous opportunities to participate and support a range of communications activities as part of the wider Climate Week NYC program, including on the ground participation in key events, engagement will partners and support across campaign activations


About you

This is an excellent opportunity for someone to play an integral role in supporting a major climate event and working directly with a range of external groups. Therefore, the role would be suited to someone who thrives working in a proactive environment with a confident, entrepreneurial, and positive attitude. 

You will need to be passionate about our objectives as an organization as well as the wider climate space, with experience working with climate organizations and campaign groups an advantage. We would be particularly interested to hear from individuals with a passion for working with underrepresented groups in climate, as well as candidates with additional languages.

Qualifications and Special Requirements:

-Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office
-Demonstrates strong writing and editing skills
-Ability to work well under pressure and unsupervised

-Strong collaborative team player able to work independently and as a self-starter in a dynamic, results-oriented, and entrepreneurial environment with tight deadlines and multiple priorities

Our location

We operate a hybrid working model with a combination of remote and office-based working. Our main base is in NYC, but we are willing to consider candidates in Washington, DC or other areas in the Northeast.
